Surgeons trust SMA because of our experience, expertise and excellence in neuromonitoring. SMA has monitored over 100,000 cases since the practice was formed in 1986. The clinical staff is among the most qualified in the field, having undergone extensive specialty training and continuing education to ensure delivery of care that is nothing short of excellent. SMA’s founder, Dr. Daniel M. Schwartz, is among the original pioneers in intraoperative neurophysiology and continues to be an innovative leader almost three decades later. Press the link below for more information on SMA’s many published contributions in surgical journals and textbooks. When it comes to choosing a neuromonitoring provider for your surgery, would you want anyone but the best?
SMA Literature
What Should You Expect?
Prior to surgery, an SMA surgical neurophysiologist will prepare you for the neuromonitoring by taking a case history, performing a brief assessment of muscle strength and applying electrodes for monitoring and/or mapping vital neural structures, pathways, and blood flow to identify emerging neurologic injury should it occur. This will allow the surgical team to introduce corrective measures in a timely manner. In the rare event of an impending problem, the surgical neurophysiologist will work together with the surgeon and anesthesiologist as they take steps to minimize the magnitude of a neurologic complication.
Health Insurance Coverage
While many health insurance plans will pay SMA directly for IONM services, some may not. In such cases, the insurance payments will be sent directly to you as the insured and not to SMA as the provider. Please be advised that you are obligated to endorse and forward any insurance payment for IONM services to Surgical Monitoring Associates without delay. Please include a copy of the Explanation of Benefits you receive from your insurance carrier. |
