Surgical Monitoring Associates (SMA), Inc., a leader in intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring (IONM), is one of the oldest and most reputable providers of surgical neuromonitoring services in the United States. Since 1986, we have been dedicated to protecting patients from intraoperative iatrogenic neural injury.
Our clinical staff is highly skilled in monitoring all IONM modalities including, but not limited to: Transcranial Electric Motor Evoked Potentials, Somatosensory Evoked Potentials, Auditory Evoked Potentials Visual Evoked Potentials, Spontaneous and Stimulated Electromyography, Nerve Conduction Studies, Raw and Quantitative EEG, Transcranial Doppler, and Cerebral Oximetry. Each surgical neurophysiologist has completed both a structured didactic fellowship and mentored clinical internship, and nearly all hold or are eligible for professional board certification by the American Board of Neurophysiologic Monitoring (ABNM). Importantly, certification by the ABNM attests to both technical and professional competence, including real-time interpretation of neuromonitoring data and effective personal communication of findings to the surgeon in the operating room.
The following is a brief survey of the many surgical procedures amenable to intraoperative neurophysiologic monitoring in both adults and children.
